Thailand 30-Day Visa Exemption 2026: Country List & Rules

What changed: 15 September 2026

The revised schemes took effect on 15 September 2026, following Cabinet approval on 19 May 2026 and Royal Gazette publication on 31 August 2026. Travellers admitted before 15 September 2026 keep the stay already stamped in their passport.

Exemptions are for tourism purposes only. Everyone else requires a visa: apply through Thai e-Visa. Thai nationals do not use these foreign-national schemes.

Conditions to check before travel

Exemptions are not available to Travel Document for Aliens holders. Exemption funds are 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.

Visa-exempt land/sea entries are limited to twice per calendar year, except for Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore. TAT states a maximum of two land-border entries per calendar year for the 15-day exemption. Myanmar’s 14-day bilateral exemption applies at international airports only.

Visa on Arrival has its own conditions. It is generally not extendable except for illness.

Frequently asked questions

Did the 60-day tourism exemption end?

Yes. The 60-day tourism exemption was revoked effective 15 September 2026. The revised arrangements include a 30-day exemption for 60 countries and territories.

Which countries have the 15-day exemption?

Seychelles and Mauritius have the 15-day tourism exemption.

Which countries are in the Visa on Arrival group?

Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia qualify for 15-day tourism Visa on Arrival.

Is the stay length verified for the separately listed bilateral group?

No. China, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Laos, Macao, Mongolia, Russia, Timor-Leste and Vietnam: bilateral agreement — exact stay length: confirm with embassy (not fully verified).

Can I extend the Thailand 30-day visa exemption?

Yes. Washington’s embassy page confirms an extension of up to 30 days at the immigration officer’s discretion. Apply in person using TM.7 before your permitted stay ends; the Immigration Bureau lists a 1,900 THB fee. Approval is not automatic. See how to extend a Thai visa exemption.

Where do I apply for a Thailand 30-day extension, and what is the fee?

Apply in person at Immigration Division 1 in Bangkok or your provincial immigration office; the Immigration Bureau lists a 1,900 THB fee. Read the visa-exemption extension guide and check the Bangkok counter for your entry route.

Where do I apply for an extension in Bangkok?

The official Division 1 contact page directs visa-exemption extensions to Counter K, IT Square Laksi Plaza, 3rd floor. Elsewhere, use your provincial immigration office. See the Bangkok extension office guide.

What if I overstay my exemption?

The site lists an overstay fine of 500 THB per day, capped at 20,000 THB. Use the overstay fine calculator for an estimate. The cap concerns the monetary fine, not your immigration outcome. Apply for any extension before the permitted stay ends.

Are land and air entries treated the same?

The site’s land and sea arrival guide lists visa-exempt land/sea entries as limited to twice per calendar year, except Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore. This is the site’s existing route data; do not apply that limit to air travel. Myanmar’s 14-day bilateral exemption applies at international airports only.

Is TDAC still required for a visa-exempt arrival?

Yes. The Thailand arrival card is required for all non-Thai nationals entering Thailand, including visa-exempt visitors, by air, land or sea. It is separate from your permission to stay. Read TDAC requirements by nationality and see how to fill out the TDAC before submitting a new card for each entry.

How much money must I show for visa exemption?

Washington’s embassy page says visa-exemption travellers must have cash of 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family. These are exemption figures; Visa on Arrival has separate funds requirements. Confirm the requirements for your own entry scheme before travelling.

What the embassy confirmed on 17 September 2026

The Royal Thai Embassy in Washington updated its exemption page on 17 September 2026. It confirms that the scheme effective 15 September covers 60 countries and territories for tourism stays of up to 30 days, with an extension not exceeding another 30 days at the immigration officer’s discretion. The former 60-day tourism exemption was revoked; a 30-day extension is a separate application, not an automatic 60-day admission.

The other groups remain important when checking your passport nationality: Seychelles and Mauritius have the 15-day exemption, while Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia are in the 15-day Visa on Arrival group. Separate bilateral arrangements must be read on their own terms. Use the nationality-by-nationality visa guide when the table gives a different route, and read the exemption proof-of-funds requirements before departure. Washington specifies cash of 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.

Before arranging a longer trip, read the 30-day visa extension guide. The Immigration Bureau lists an in-person TM.7 application, a passport copy, a recent 4 × 6 cm photograph and a 1,900 THB fee. Apply before the permission in your passport ends. An extension is not a 90-day report; the border, overstay and reporting guide explains the distinction.
