Thailand entry questions, answered

The practical details, with the uncertainty left visible.

For customs questions about devices in your luggage, read Thailand's vape and IQOS rules before packing.

Did the 60-day visa exemption end?

Yes. The 60-day tourism exemption was revoked effective 15 September 2026. The new arrangements include 30 days for 60 countries and territories, 15 days for Seychelles and Mauritius, and separate bilateral schemes.

What if I entered before 15 September 2026?

Travellers already admitted before 15 September 2026 keep the stay stamped in their passport.

Who needs a TDAC?

Since 1 May 2025, all non-Thai nationals entering Thailand by air, land or sea must submit TDAC before arrival. Thai nationals do not need it. A new TDAC is required for every entry.

When should I submit TDAC?

Submit within 3 days before arrival, including arrival day — up to 72 hours before. Keep the confirmation and QR code.

Is TDAC free, and is it a visa?

The official TDAC is free at tdac.immigration.go.th. It is an arrival card, not a visa. Martin’s TDAC auto-fill app is an independent helper that pre-fills the official form, not the official site.

Can I edit TDAC after submitting it?

The official FAQ says Full Name, Passport Number, Nationality and Date of Birth cannot be updated. The 2025.05.00 release notes differ on passport-number editing; if unsure, submit a new TDAC. The latest submission is valid.

Can a group submit TDAC together?

Yes. Group submission supports up to 10 people. Complete the information in English.

Can I extend a visa-exempt stay?

For the 30-day exemption, an extension of up to 30 days is at the immigration officer’s discretion. Apply in person with TM.7 and the listed 1,900 THB fee before your permitted stay ends. Unverified: extension terms for the 15-day exemption; confirm at immigration.

Can I use an exemption for remote work?

Exemptions are for tourism purposes only. For remote work, review the DTV workcation category and confirm eligibility with the embassy.

How long can I stay on DTV?

DTV has 5-year validity and multiple entry, with 180 days per entry. It is extendable once per entry for up to 180 days at Immigration; then you must exit and re-enter.

Are land and sea entries limited?

Visa-exempt land/sea entries are limited to twice per calendar year, except for Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore. TAT states a maximum of two land-border entries for the 15-day exemption. Myanmar’s 14-day exemption applies at international airports only.

Is a 90-day report an extension?

No. The TM47 report applies to stays of more than 90 consecutive days and is not an extension. LTR holders use a 1-year report (TM95) instead; TM30 remains required.

Is the bilateral stay length verified for China and the other separately listed countries?

No. For China, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Laos, Macao, Mongolia, Russia, Timor-Leste and Vietnam: bilateral agreement — exact stay length: confirm with embassy (not fully verified).

Use the answer that matches your trip

Start with your passport nationality, travel purpose and intended length of stay. The nationality table separates the tourism exemption schemes, bilateral arrangements and Visa on Arrival. A number that applies to one group is not an allowance for every traveller. Where the exact bilateral stay is unverified, the answer remains to confirm it with the embassy.

Then separate arrival preparation from permission to stay. TDAC collects passport, personal, travel, accommodation and health information; it does not replace a visa. Reporting after arrival is another separate task: TM30 concerns accommodation and TM47 concerns stays of more than 90 consecutive days. Neither should be treated as an extension application.

The answers were checked on 19 October 2026. The 30-day exemption extension is confirmed by Washington’s embassy; approval remains at Immigration’s discretion. Use the detailed guides for the full conditions and the official source links for the requirements you need to verify before travel.

For a Bangkok application, check the visa-extension office and Counter K guide. UK applicants can use the London DTV checklist, and parents can check whether their child needs a Thailand visa.
