Why an extension may not be granted

The Washington embassy says an extension is solely at the immigration officer’s discretion; it is not automatic. The 30-day exemption is for tourism.

The Immigration Bureau’s tourist-visa criteria limit extensions to no more than 7 days for nationals of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda.

Unverified: Whether that tourist-visa limit applies to the 30-day exemption is not verified here. Confirm with Immigration.

Apply before your permitted stay ends. After that, you are overstaying; the site’s overstay fine calculator explains the fine of 500 THB per day, capped at 20,000 THB.

Extension, TM30 and the 90-day report

An extension is a separate application. TM30 is the accommodation notification filed by the hotel or owner; see the TM30 guide. The 90-day report is not an extension; see the border, overstay and reporting guide.
