Visa on Arrival: a separate 2-blank-page rule
Visa on Arrival requires at least 6 months’ passport validity and 2 blank pages. See our entry checklist and Visa on Arrival guide for the embassy-sourced requirements.
Can an airline deny boarding?
The Samut Prakan Immigration FAQ tells travellers to check with their airline first because some airlines may refuse boarding when a passport has less than 6 months remaining.
GOV.UK says to check with your travel provider that your passport and travel documents meet requirements. You will be denied entry without a valid travel document or with a passport reported lost or stolen.
If your passport has less than 6 months’ validity after arrival, renew it before booking. GOV.UK advises renewing your passport if needed.
That FAQ’s reference to “20 countries” eligible for Visa on Arrival is outdated relative to our current 3-country VoA list. Do not use that older country count to determine eligibility.

Can an exempt national use an emergency passport?
Washington’s embassy page accepts temporary, provisional or emergency passports of exempt nationals, with at least six months’ validity upon returning to the country of residence. Confirm that your document and entry route meet that wording.
Which passport should a dual national use to leave Thailand?
The Paris embassy says to leave Thailand on the same passport used to enter. Mixing passports can lead to overstay accusations or missing entry records.
Does a Thai dual national need TDAC?
A Thai dual national entering on a Thai passport does not need TDAC because Thai nationals are exempt. Unverified: TDAC requirements when entering on a foreign passport; confirm with Thai Immigration.

Do children's passports need 6 months' validity?

Check six calendar months from arrival
Enter your planned arrival and passport expiry dates. The calculator compares dates only; check blank pages yourself. It runs in your browser. For an arrival day that does not exist six months later, this estimate uses the last day of that month.
Prepare the rest of the arrival documents
Passport checks are one part of the pre-departure checklist. Have onward or return travel and accommodation details ready. Visa on Arrival specifically requires a fully paid onward ticket usable within 30 days of entry, together with a photo, application form and the funds listed in the visa guide. That ticket condition does not increase the 15-day stay.
Use your passport and personal details when completing the Thailand arrival card. See how to fill out the TDAC and recheck your details before submitting. TDAC is an arrival card, not a visa or a replacement for checking passport requirements. Save the confirmation and keep the QR code available for the journey.
Temporary, provisional and emergency passports
The Royal Thai Embassy in Washington says temporary, provisional or emergency passports held by nationals eligible for exemption are accepted. It specifies at least six months’ validity upon returning to the country of residence. Check that return-based wording against your document’s expiry date; do not assume it means only six months from arrival in Thailand.
This return-based validity statement concerns exempt nationals using those documents. The general guidance above requires at least 1 blank page; Visa on Arrival requires 2. Use the visa-by-nationality guide to identify the route before checking its document rules.
Damaged passports and boarding
Unverified: airlines check travel documents before boarding and may refuse carriage if a passport doesn't meet entry requirements or is damaged. Confirm with your airline and passport authority.
Dual nationals: use the same passport for entry and exit
The Royal Thai Embassy in Paris says immigration rules require you to leave Thailand on the same passport you entered with. Mixing passports can lead to overstay accusations or missing entry records. Keep that entry-and-exit record in mind when reading Thailand’s border and overstay reporting guidance. The Phang Nga Immigration manual describes a single-nationality principle at passport control.
Thai nationals do not need a TDAC, so a Thai dual national entering on a Thai passport does not need one. The TDAC nationality guide explains the rule for non-Thai nationals.
Unverified: TDAC requirements for a Thai dual national entering on a foreign passport are not verified here. Confirm with Thai Immigration before submission.
When preparing a child’s documents, read the passport and consent guidance for children. For the arrival itself, the airport arrival steps show where passport control fits into the journey.
