Borders, overstays & reporting

Land, sea & repeat entries

Visa-exempt land/sea entries are limited to twice per calendar year, except for Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore. TAT also specifies a maximum of two land-border entries per calendar year for the 15-day exemption.

Myanmar’s 14-day bilateral exemption is for international airports only. Submit a new TDAC for each entry. Confirm repeat-entry plans with Thai immigration; this guide does not establish any additional repeat-entry allowance.

TM30 · your accommodation’s report

The house owner or hotel must notify immigration within 24 hours of a foreigner’s arrival. The owner can be fined up to 2,000 THB. Submit through local immigration or the official TM30 service. Re-file on a change of residence or re-entry. Read the full TM30 guide.

TM30 remains required for LTR holders.

90-day report · TM47

For stays of more than 90 consecutive days, report in person, through a representative, by mail or online. The late-reporting fine is 2,000 THB.

A 90-day report is not an extension of stay. LTR holders use a 1-year report (TM95) instead.

Overstay & entry bans

Overstay is fined at 500 THB per day, up to 20,000 THB. Entry bans apply in caught/surrender circumstances; an overstay of more than 90 days leads to a 1-year ban under the rule covered here. Confirm how the circumstances apply with immigration.

Act before your permission expires

Apply for any extension before the permitted stay ends. To change visa type, submit at least 15 days before your current permission expires. Travellers admitted before 15 September 2026 keep the stay stamped on arrival.

Separate the four things to check

Entry, stay and reporting are different checks
CheckWhat it coversWhat to do
Border entryThe limits attached to the exemption scheme and arrival route.Check nationality and land or sea entry conditions before planning another entry.
Permitted stayThe stay granted on admission.Apply for any extension before that permission ends.
AccommodationTM30 notification by the house owner or hotel.Check the reporting arrangements for arrival, a residence change or re-entry.
Long stayTM47 for more than 90 consecutive days, or TM95 for LTR holders.Keep reporting separate from an extension application.

The fine calculation also needs to be kept separate from an entry-ban assessment. A monetary estimate cannot establish the outcome for a particular traveller. The distinctions between being caught and surrendering, and further ban tiers, remain unverified in this guide; discuss your circumstances with Thai Immigration.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 90-day report extend my stay in Thailand?

No. TM47 is a report for stays of more than 90 consecutive days, not an extension. Apply for an extension before your permitted stay ends. LTR holders use a 1-year report, TM95, instead; TM30 still applies.

Who submits the TM30 accommodation report?

The house owner or hotel must notify immigration within 24 hours of a foreigner’s arrival, through local immigration or the official TM30 service. Re-file on a change of residence or re-entry. The owner can be fined up to 2,000 THB.

Do land border entries have a separate exemption limit?

Visa-exempt land and sea entries are limited to twice per calendar year, except for Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore. TAT also states a maximum of two land-border entries for the 15-day exemption. Confirm repeat-entry plans with Thai Immigration.
