Does My Child Need a Visa for Thailand? 2026 Rules for Kids

Check the child’s passport nationality

The MFA exemption summary and embassy exemption guidance organise eligibility by nationality. Check the child’s nationality against the visa-exemption lists or visa-by-country guide. Do not treat the absence of a separate child scheme as a waiver of visa requirements.

Where the listed exemption applies, use its conditions and stay length. Where a visa is required, follow the relevant embassy’s application guidance. The main children’s guide distinguishes visa-application documents from embassy guidance for travelling with one parent.

Own passport and own TDAC

Prepare the child’s own passport. The passport guidance used on this site states the rule for all visitors: at least six months’ validity and at least one blank page. See passport validity and the six-month calculator for the full rule and Visa-on-Arrival distinction.

The official TDAC FAQ explicitly includes infants and children. A parent can submit for a child, and a family or group submission can include up to 10 travellers; each child still needs a TDAC. Follow the children’s passport and TDAC checklist and the family submission guide.

Children joining a DTV holder

London’s DTV3 category covers the spouse and children under 20 of a DTV holder. The embassy lists the holder’s visa and proof of relationship. For applications through London, minors under 16 also have extra documents. See the London DTV application guide and the embassy’s category checklist.

Consent letters: embassy guidance

The Royal Thai Embassy Bern gives guidance for children travelling with one parent or without parents, including relationship documents, consent letters and parent passport copies. Its consent letter must be in English or Thai and legalized. Read the main children’s guide for Bern’s guidance and the Chicago visa-application checklist.

Unverified: Whether Thai immigration checks these consent documents at the border for visa-exempt minors is not verified here. Confirm with your airline and embassy.

Frequently asked questions

Does my child need a separate Thailand visa?

Check the child’s passport nationality and the applicable visa or exemption route. The cited MFA and embassy exemption lists do not publish a separate child scheme; do not assume a child is exempt because of age.

Does a baby need a passport and TDAC?

Prepare the baby’s own passport under the passport rule for all visitors. The official TDAC FAQ says infants and children need a TDAC when entering Thailand; a parent can submit for them.

Can a child join a parent on a DTV?

London’s DTV3 category covers children under 20 of DTV holders. London lists the holder’s visa and proof of relationship; follow its category checklist and extra documents for minors under 16.
